Material, finish and silhouette all shape the way a fixture sits in a room. Compare them separately: a color name describes only part of the design, and a photograph of a lit fixture can look different from the same piece in daylight.

Material and finish: what is the difference?

The material is what a component is made from. The finish describes its surface appearance or treatment. A brass-colored finish does not, by itself, mean that every component is solid brass. Read the product's material and finish fields together, and ask for clarification when they do not describe the component you are interested in.

What can you learn from the photographs?

Look for both a room view and a close-up. The room view helps you judge the visual weight of the silhouette; the close-up shows the surface and construction details more clearly. If lit and unlit views are available, compare both before deciding.

Where a product specifies natural stone, grain or veining can vary between pieces. Check the product description for the material used rather than assuming that a pale shade is stone or that a translucent shade is glass.

How do you coordinate finishes in a room?

Choose a reference already in the room: a handle, mirror frame, table base or another fixture. Compare the undertone, sheen and texture as well as the finish name. Two designs described as gold or bronze may not be exact matches. If an exact match matters, contact us with the two product links before ordering.

Which details matter as much as appearance?

• The dimensions for the selected size, including the fixture body and overall drop.
• The canopy or backplate size and the space it needs.
• The stated light source and any dimming compatibility.
• The mounting type and the rating for the intended location.
